Day 1
Travel to Ireland, arriving in your hotel for evening meal. The beauty of Waterford Bay is accessible from a choice of ports, Holyhead to Dublin or Fishguard to Rosslare, and depending on your location any holiday to this area can be enhanced with an overnight stay en-route.
Day 2
Depending on your travelling you may prefer to stay local today and take in the delights of the regions capital, Waterford. Synonymous the world over for its hand crafted crystal the new visitor centre is probably a must see for most visitors. Waterford simply has something for everyone from a quiet café to some serious retail therapy.
Day 3
An excursion to Cork would make for a full day out today. First settled by the Vikings, locals today will still try and convince you that it is the real capital of Ireland. One of the world’s largest natural harbours the modern city is still a vibrant port. Enhance your day with a visit to Jamesons Old Distillery at Midleton or a small diversion to the port of Cobh, the last port of call for the Titanic.
Day 4
Take a choice of excursions today – maybe Wexford, once a vibrant port but now home to little more than a fishing fleet this harbour town has enjoyed a chequered past being home to the Irish rebellion against British rule in 1798. A visit to the JFK Park & Arboretum on the way is well worth the short detour. Alternatively head north for Kilkenny, with its 800 year old castle, this medieval town has some perfectly preserved quarters and is now a fascinating venue specialising in local crafts with a diverse array of restaurants and bars.
DAY 5
Time to return to the UK. Make the short journey to Rosslare for the ferry back to South Wales or head north for the fast crossing back to Holyhead. Alternatively, add an extra night in Dublin and enjoy time sightseeing in the capital.
